FMB "BUMAR" Sp. z o.o has two principal divisions and lines of production: large hydraulic cylinders and aluminum die-casting. The company has been operating for half a century. It was started as a state-owned enterprise in 1955 as a repair workshop for farm machinery and food equipment. In 1958 a foundry was built. In 1977 the production of powered hydraulics components was started. FMB Bumar was part of the armament industry sector and produced mainly for the needs of the Soviet Warsaw Treaty armies. Among others its large hydraulic cylinders were used in rocket launch vehicles of the Soviet Rad Army. After the fall of communism in 1989 the company has been privatized. Its key shareholders are two former directors and a Swiss investor. The company has completely reoriented its business profile. Because of the priority given by the communist government to the armament industry FMB Bumar has been equipped in the most modern and most expensive machinery from top Western manufacturers. It has moved to civilian production and has shifted its sales to the Western European markets, where over 90% of its output is now sold. Company employs ca 100 workers and has sales of ca USD1,2 M. The company is located in the city of Choszczno in the North-West part of Poland, about 100 miles from Berlin. |
